10 ways you know a story was written by me

I have, yet again, stolen an idea. I was browsing through blogs and came upon an interesting post on Humble Fiction Cafe.

Fellow authors, spread the meme:

1. Write a blog post about ten ways you know a story was written by you.

2. Then comment on this post with the link to your post!

2a. Or just write your answers as comments, below. But that’s less fun.

Like chain mail, but with blog posts. Easy as that.

Okay, so my list of ten is as follows:

1. It has supernatural elements.

2. There’s at least one death, if not more.

3. There will be a surly/grumpy yet attractive male character.

4. The prologue is from the point of view of someone other than the protagonist. (I don’t know why I do this.)

5. At least one character will have a colour name. Don’t know why either.

6. The main character is female (need to do something about this eventually).

7. Nearly every chapter ends with a cliff-hanger.

8. Most of the characters are twenty-somethings.

9. I like dialogue. A lot.

10. Someone gets drugged / tranquillized / medically knocked out.

In summary, my stories are adult, female-led, violent, and have unattainable men. What about yours?

About A.M. Harte

A.M. Harte writes twisted speculative fiction, such as the post-apocalyptic Above Ground and the zombie love anthology Hungry For You. She is excellent at missing deadlines, has long forgotten what ‘free time’ means, and is utterly addicted to chocolate.

Hi! I’m a member of HFC – I’m so glad you found our blog and use of the post. :) We have a lot of the same things in our stories. I love your # 5.

  2. If it’s an old gray-haired country Doc who picks the mandolin in a bluegrass band on the weekends and his best friend is a part Choctaw Indian who drinks too much Jim Beam and plays the fiddle, it has to be me.

Hello. I’m an HFC member too and you had recently visited my novel blog and commented on prologues (so your number 4 on this list was not a surprise). Yours is an interesting list – I especially like your number 7 as this would certainly prompt the reader to want to continue on.

This is cool. I want to try this. It’s sounds awesome. Yours are hilarious.

Hi, nice to meet you! I got here from Kait’s blog & decided to participate (if it’s a blogfest or anything viral, I’m all over it. LOL)
