20 reasons why books are better than dating

A conversation on Twitter with @LicoriceLain and @harmony0stars resulted in me compiling this (rather silly) list, with the help of my (amazing) sister.

Why books are the better option:

  1. You can have more than one book on the go at the same time.
  2. A book will wait patiently for you wherever you leave it.
  3. Books always smell nice.
  4. You can share a book with friends and family.
  5. A book will never talk back.
  6. You don’t have to dress up for a book.
  7. You can find good books nearly everywhere.
  8. Picking up a second book straight after the first makes you look good.
  9. When you’re finished with a book, it’s still worth money.
  10. Hardcovers are easier to cope with than hard covers (via @RichHL).
  11. A book won’t judge you if you go out and forget about it for a night.
  12. Length is not an issue with a book.
  13. A book can accompany you everywhere.
  14. A book looks the same the morning after.
  15. A book doesn’t take up much space.
  16. A book never changes its mind.
  17. If you talk about books, everyone will think you’re intelligent (even if you’re not).
  18. A book doesn’t expect you to make witty small talk.
  19. A book won’t be offended if you fall asleep halfway through.
  20. When you finish a book, the thought of another book doesn’t make you feel sick.

Any other suggestions?

  1. You forgot the most important ones!

*A book will never come off as creepy.
*A book will never fondle you or touch inappropriately.
*A book will not get into trouble.
*You can’t get pregnant by sleeping with a book.
*A book can be extremely negative and yet completely beautiful at the same time.
*A book won’t fuck you up to the point which you want to off yourself.

  2. Najela says:

A book won’t leave you and hang out with friends.
You can share books with friends and not feel jealous.
You don’t need to tell a book to put the toilet seat down.
Your book won’t get jealous if you leave it for other books.
You can read other books, and still come back to your favorite.
